How Overseas Pakistanis Can Protect Property Rights

Muhammad Touseeq 9 June 2026 5 min read

Overseas Pakistanis invest billions into the local real estate market annually. However, physical absence makes these investments vulnerable to illegal occupation (Qabza) and forged ownership transfers.

Key Protective Measures

  1. Secure Valid Power of Attorney: Only grant Special Power of Attorney for specific tasks, avoiding General Power of Attorney whenever possible.
  2. Regular Property Audits: Engage local counsel to physically inspect the property and verify records with the local land revenue department (Patwari/CDA).
  3. File Injunctions Promptly: If an illegal occupation is suspected, a stay order must be sought from the Civil Court immediately.
